I've recently started to review c++ again. Before I attending university, I tried to teach myself c++. However, like many newbie coders, I couldn't wrap my head around the different kinds of pointers. After I enrolling in the Faculty of Applied Science, my first programming involved learning Java. It wasn't until my second year in China at Zhejiang University that I was exposed to c++ again. And while I became rather skilled in using it there, SFU doesn't exactly use it here. Therefore, I'm rather rusty. In the past I used the cprogramming.com's c++ tutorials, however I'm enjoying reading through learncpp.com's this time around. I find their code examples to be simpler and the author asks and answers questions that I've had and no other site has before. It's rather refreshing to finally understand some concepts that I've always struggled with in the past.

EA Life
I often work the Saturday or Sunday shift at work. It's usually quiet and I'm often the only one on. Because I'm the only one on and I'm a rather social person, weekend shifts tend to be very isolating and boring. I could use the time to get school work done, but I've always had difficulty doing that for work-ethic reasons. Even though my supervisors are fine with me doing homework when it's quiet, it always feels wrong working on things other than what I'm being paid to do.

Post-Reading Break
The reading break here up at SFU was rather nice. The weather, for the most part, was pretty good. I worked a little bit, studied some old material in CMPT 300, met up with a few friends for lunch and dinner, and I slept a lot. I probably should have gotten more things done, but I'm surprised I accomplished what I did considering your brain is telling you to NOT DO ANYTHING for the whole week :)

Job Fair
Well, the move went well. Thank you to my friends who helped me. Today is the start of a two-day job fair at SFU. It's a tech-based fair with a lot of different companies I've never head of before. So, I guess it will be a good opportunity to practice my networking skills.

Moving!
Well, I'm moving tomorrow (same building, from a 1 bedroom place to a 2 bedroom place). This week has been so busy for me that I've had little-to-no time to seek out co-op jobs. I'm relying heavily on networking rather than sending out a mass of resumes right now due to my schedule. It's been hard trying to keep up on classes, part-time work, co-op seeking, and meeting with my Chinese language partner.

I think I'm free...
Well, I blog post earlier, the one about being released for seeking a co-op position, was a little incorrect. I was fully and officially released today. Which makes sense, as when I did a search through WIL's Symplicity system I could only find two CMPT positions, both a repost of the same job. Well, it's now up to around forty, which is much better.

Changes
Last term I didn't do as well academically as I wanted. I took four classes and ended up earning a wide range of grades (A- to a D). I'm tired of doing poorly in my classes. I'm tired of not being able to grasp some of these subjects. While I was in China, I ended up with wildly divergant grades. Some classes were in the 90's, while others I was bumped up to pass. I was hoping that when I came back, I'd do better because I was "back home". That didn't happen.
I've started changing my study habits. It's been difficult, as my old bad habits are fighting me every step of the way. I hope to overcome them.

Freedom!
Well, actually, I've just been released to start seeking co-op opportunities at SFU. At the moment though, it doesn't seem that there are many positions available for computer science students. There is an interesting position with the Canadian consulate in China that I might look into more. There are multiple consulates through out China, so maybe I would have some options. If I was able to be stationed in Shanghai, that would make going to Hangzhou that much simpler.
